Taken to the Stage

THE EDUCATION OF AN ACTRESS

A new edition of Mimi’s out-of-print mid-career memoir, TAKEN TO THE STAGE – THE EDUCATION OF AN ACTRESS is now available in paperback, ebook and on Audible.

“I recounted this story in my 1996 mid-life memoir in an age before youtube videos and social media, I thought it was worth retelling. Here’s the story of my audition, casting, and ultimately my resignation from Andy Warhol’s Pork.” -Mimi Kennedy.

In the course of her own story, Mimi shows us that being an actor and storyteller is a fruitful way to develop as a human being.

Marjorie (Mimi Kennedy) struggles with aging, and with the identity of being a reliable rock for others while faltering within.

#RethinkAging Initiative

Mimi participated in The Hollywood, Health & Society‘s #RethinkAging video campaign to encourage more stories to be told about older adults. The initiative is in partnership with the University of Southern California Annenberg’s Norman Lear Center.

Pru Payne is the 2022 winner of the Edgerton Foundation New Play Award and was written by Pulitzer Prize nominee Steven Drukman. It is a remarkable, funny, and emotional journey about the evolution of love and identity in the face of memory loss that will be directed by Sean Daniels

Mimi Kennedy has been an active presence on our tv screens since the 1970’s. Her most notable TV roles are Marjorie Armstrong on MOM and Abby O’Neil on Dharma & Greg.  Recently Mimi could be seen in guest roles on Grace & Frankie , The Goldbergs , and In The Dark.

Kennedy ignited her acting career on stage opposite TV legend Sid Caesar in Neil Simon’s “Last Of The Red Hot Lovers,”along with Doris Roberts, who became a friend and mentor. Kennedy was active in the NYC theatre scene in the 1970’s, cast in plays like Jim Steinman’s “Das Rheingold” and Andy Warhol’s  “Pork” – a role she left due to reasons recounted in her mid-life memoir “Taken to the Stage: The Education of an Actress.”

Her Broadway debut was as the Pink Lady Jan in the original run of “Grease.” She was also a member of the original touring production of the “National Lampoon Show.”

Steinman would become a life-long friend and Warhol, at least in her case, would be proven wrong about fame. She achieved some that has lasted longer than 15 minutes.

Her most notable films include “In the Loop,” “Midnight in Paris,” “Pump Up the Volume,” “Erin Brockovich,” “Man in the Chair,” and “The Five-Year Engagement.”

Upcoming film releases include “Going Places” & “Scrambled.”
